Our Ironhorse Stable Series aims to highlight the horses that inspired Ironhorse’s unique community spaces. Today, we would like to feature Sergeant Reckless, who inspired the name for our Reckless Wine Bar. Reckless started her military career in October 1952 for the Recoilless Rifle Platoon of the 5th Marine Regiment in Seoul, South Korea. She learned battlefield survival skills such as avoiding barbed wire, lying down when under fire and even running to the bunker upon hearing, “Incoming! Her most notable day was during the Battle of Panmunjom-Vegas (March 26-28, 1953) when by herself, made 51 trips in a single day, carrying a total of 386 recoilless rounds (over 9000 pounds) and covering over 35 miles! Reckless was injured twice, but as a result was promoted to Corporal.
Reckless’ intelligence and calm presence created community among the troops. She was known for drinking beer and coca-cola, as well as helping herself to any leftover food. Before she died, she was promoted again to Staff Sergeant.
Our Reckless Wine Bar embodies that same sense of welcoming community and cheer over food and drink. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can always expect to find laughter and joy. At the moment, we are focused on providing our members with a safe dining experience and therefore have adjusted our hours and our seating. Even with a few empty seats, Reckless Wine Bar is still the upbeat heart of our community. ... See MoreSee Less
